Rules for Summer 5v5 League:
NUMBER OF PLAYERS: Ten is the maximum number of players on a team roster; there are four field players and a goalie. Goalies must wear unlike colors. However, due to a player injury or player ejection, a minimum of four players can still compete.
PLAYER SUBSTITUTIONS: Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Substitutions may be made at any deadball situation, regardless of possession. Teams must get the referee’s permission and players are to enter and exit at mid-field. There are no substitutions when the ball is in play.
GUEST PLAYERS: No guest players will be permitted for this league.
PLAYER EQUIPMENT: All players must provide their own shin guards and wear them during game time. Any player without shin guards will not be allowed to play. PLAYER “KITS”: If both teams are wearing the same color, the designated home team will change color or SSA will provide pennies.
PLAYER EJECTION (RED CARD): Referees have the right to eject a player from the game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants sending the player off. The team may then continue with their remaining players, however if the player receiving the red card was in the field of play, the team must complete the game with only four players on the field. If more than one player is given a red card while on the field, the team must forfeit as they cannot field the minimum number of players (4). Depending on the severity of the infraction, the player receiving the red card will be suspended for a minimum of the next game to complete expulsion from the League. A player receiving two red cards during league play will be dismissed from the remainder of the season.
THERE ARE NO OFFSIDES IN 5V5 SOCCER
NO SLIDE TACKLING IN 5V5 SOCCER: An infraction will result in a Direct Free Kick. Persistent infractions can result in a Yellow Card or possible Red Card. Slide tackling by a defensive player (other than the goalie) in the Penalty Area will result in a Penalty Kick. Goalies can slide inside of their respective penalty area to save or recover the ball but NOT TO TACKLE another player.
PENALTY AREA: The goalie may handle the ball in the penalty area, but not from a back pass. Handling the ball from a back pass will result in an indirect kick from the penalty spot at the top of the box. The defending team can set a wall 5 yards from the ball.
PENALTY KICKS: A penalty kick is taken from the penalty spot above the goal box.
GOAL KICKS: Goalies must restart with a throw or roll from their hands. A goalie cannot throw the length of the field into the opposing Team’s penalty area. The ball must touch the ground or another player before entering the opposing Team’s penalty area. Goals cannot be scored directly from a throw.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: A goalie can release the ball to their own feet. After taking 1 touch with their feet their 2nd touch establishes them as a field player. They can dribble, pass, and shoot with their 2nd touch from anywhere on the field, the same as a field player.
- No direct punting! No direct drop kicks!
BALL SIZE: Current age ball size will be used for each division. Size 3 for U8, Size 4 for U9-U12 and size 5 for U13 and up.
GOAL SCORING: A goal may be scored from anywhere on the field.
FIVE (5) YARD RULE: In all dead ball situations, restarts, including game start and halftime start, defending players must stand at least five (5) yards away from the ball.
RESTARTS: KICK-OFFS, KICK-INS, and THROW-INS are all Indirect Plays. All fouls or penalties committed on the field during play will result in a Direct Kick. CORNER KICKS are Direct Kicks. KICK OFF: Is an Indirect Kick and may be taken in any direction.
KICK-INS & THROW-INS: A ball leaving the field of play on the sides of the field can be put back into play by either Indirect Kick or by Throw-In. All throw-ins will be Indirect Plays.
GAME DURATION: League Play games for U9 and up will consist of two equal 24 minute halves. U8's will use 4 quarters with 12 minutes each.
MERCY RULE: If at any time during a game a team is losing by 10 goals the game ends there.
FAIR PLAY: Players, coaches, and spectators are expected to act in the nature of “Fair Play” at all times. Abuse of referees, opponents, coaches, or spectators will not be tolerated. Any instance of such conduct will disqualify the responsible team from the game and may result in further consequences.
